Do I need a CMS?

You probably need some kind of content management. The reason we say this is because the best sites on the web, and the ones that generate the most traffic are the ones that regularly add and change their content.

Content Management Systems

WordPressFor most sites we use the WordPress system for content management. It’s by far the easiest system out there to use and it’s very powerful, so we use it whenever possible.

logo_drupalCommunity based sites where users are creating the content, or sites that need very specific functionality (such as a real estate website for instance) are easier for us to put together using Drupal as the CMS.

When would you NOT need a CMS at all?

For most sites we do recommend setting up a CMS, some sites that wouldn’t need a custom CMS would be:

  • Sites that are full flash sites, (most photographer sites and many portfolio sites fall into this category) would not use a CMS. If you need to change the site yourself we can bring the content into the site with XML files, which are text files that you can edit yourself to add more content or change your content.
  • If you won’t change your content much you could probably save some money by making what’s called a ‘flat’ HTML site. Flat sites don’t have an interface for you to change your content, when you want somethign changed or have new pages to put in we would do the work at an hourly rate. This option is only cost effective if you don’t think you’ll change your content much or add many new sections.
  • Sites that don’t have a lot of content
