Toward the end of 2010 we worked on an identity project for BodyLocal, a NYC based fitness search engine. This post is a quick play-by-play of how their logo was created.
After some discussion of what they were looking for we came up with these logos (click to enlarge the image).
They liked the circular logo above but wanted to see it more oval and more like it was ‘in motion’.

This oval version went over really well so we started working on a few color schemes:

After showing the color versions (and much more color work not shown here) they wanted to see other options. We talked again about what they liked and what they didn’t like so far and they also gave us a few other new ideas to throw into the mix. From that discussion came this round of logos (click to enlarge):
In the end they chose one of the initial ideas we had, the logo with the Google Maps looking location marker.
